Program of Events
“Flavors of Coexistence in the Cyclades: Winter Traditions and Christmas Customs”
Friday 12/12, 18:00 – 20:00
Speaker: Giorgos Pittas
Giorgos Pittas presents a talk dedicated to the living practices and everyday Christmas customs of the Cyclades as they have developed and survived to the present day. The lecture explores how island communities—on islands such as Mykonos and Paros—use food preparation as an act of coexistence, cooperation, and the transmission of knowledge.
From the collective spirit of the Mykonian household to the gatherings around the Parian souma distillations, these small daily rituals act as carriers of memory and essential elements of Cycladic identity.
“On the Rooftops of Fairy Tales”
Monday 22/12, 10:00 – 11:00
Free admission for people aged 65+
By the group The Goats Know the Way
As part of its social initiatives, the Museum of Cycladic Art presents a special free-admission performance for visitors aged 65+.
This enchanting performance weaves together stories that bring laughter and nostalgia to the heart. This holiday season, audiences will journey through plains and mountains, through distant and familiar lands—finding somewhere warm and magical to stay along the way. Accompanied by live music, the performance features three folk tales from different parts of the world: snowy Scandinavian countries, the East, and Greek folk tradition. On stage, the narration is enriched with musical instruments—both familiar and rare—such as the oud, trumpet, accordion, baglamadaki, politiki lyra, kalimba, tambouras, and metallophone. Traditional carols, festive tunes, and reimagined folk songs complete this special musical journey.
