A New Portrait of Basil and Elise Goulandris Unveiled at the Museum’s Neoclassical Rooftop.

To mark five years since the opening of the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation Museum in Athens, the Foundation’s Board of Trustees chose to honor the memory and vision of its founders in a meaningful and contemporary way: by commissioning a portrait of Basil and Elise Goulandris from award-winning artist Iasonas Megoulas, known in the street art world as Cacao Rocks.

The striking new mural now graces the exterior wall of the Museum’s rooftop terrace on the third floor of its historic neoclassical building, overlooking the Acropolis. The artwork was unveiled during a special event attended by the Foundation’s President, Fleurette Karadonti, and the artist himself.

“We wanted to have our founders—Basil and Elise—here with us,” said Fleurette Karadonti. “So we found Iasonas, Cacao, who is deeply Greek, authentic, and has a fresh perspective. He represents the next generation, our hope—and it is with great joy and emotion that we present this work to you.”

Born in Athens in 1985, Iasonas Megoulas began his street art journey at the age of 14. Today, he is a widely recognized and award-winning artist whose practice spans street art, painting, video art, and other contemporary media. His works are featured in public spaces and have been exhibited in solo and group shows at museums, foundations, and galleries in Greece and internationally.
