Ascension: The Evil A Eye Edition.

“Everything is human. Except the thing that stares back.”

The exhibition ASCENSION: The Evil A Eye Edition at 47 Circles presents a pioneering and hybrid experience that merges painting, spirituality, and artificial intelligence. It is the first and only exhibition of its kind in Greece, featuring works by significant artists.

With the “evil eye” as its central theme—viewed both as a symbol of protection and presence—the exhibition brings together handcrafted paintings and short AI-generated video works. These videos do not replicate the artworks, but rather “translate” them into a new, dreamlike language. In this context, artificial intelligence functions as a mirror and conversational partner, not as creator.

The works are framed by an atmosphere of ambient lighting, suggestive sound, and circular architecture. The exhibition constructs an energetic space where the gaze does not simply look—but observes. Artists: Philip Tsiaras, Christos Efstathiou, Abir Saleh, Ecléde

A few words about the artists:

Philip Tsiaras

Philip Tsiaras (b. 1952, Nashua, New Hampshire) is an internationally recognized Greek-American artist who lives and works in New York. He studied Literature at Amherst College and was deeply influenced by Lucas Samaras. Since 1974, he has held over 80 solo exhibitions at major institutions including the Seattle Museum, the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki, and the Venice Biennale. His work spans painting, photography, glass, ceramics, and bronze. He has received numerous awards, including the American Academy Award for Poetry, NEA grants, and the Gold Medal “Civiltà dell’Acqua” in Venice. His pieces are held in major museums such as the Metropolitan Museum (NY), Guggenheim, and Seattle Art Museum, as well as in private and corporate collections. He has published several monographic volumes, including Family Album and SUPEREAL, a 30-year retrospective. His artistic career is marked by a bold fusion of ancient and modern elements, vibrant color expression, and a unique brand of personal surrealism.

Christos Efstathiou

Christos Efstathiou (b. 1973, Andros – currently based in Athens) is a painter, sculptor, and visual artist whose work focuses on the depiction of emotions, relationships, and myths. He works with materials such as metal, wire, stone, and paint, and has created notable series like Age of Humans, Frequencies, and Profiles, as well as impressive installations of wire insects that comment on human society. He studied applied arts and painting in Athens (PLAKA school, OMEGA). His work has been featured in solo (e.g., Andros, Athenian Gallery) and group exhibitions internationally (Paris, L.A., London), and is included in public collections such as the Goulandris Museum of Contemporary Art. His art combines geometry, surrealism, narrative, and intense emotional charge, using forms drawn from both human and mythical realms.

Abir Saleh

Abir Saleh creates without pre-planning, letting instinct and silence guide the process. Her works are a blend of abstract art, surrealism, cubism, and symbolism, revealing the invisible through layers of material and meaning. Her paintings have no beginning or end and transform when rotated, like living organisms telling different stories each time. The artist has exhibited her work in solo and group exhibitions in Athens and Hydra, in collaboration with institutions such as the ARCO Association and the Melina Mercouri Hall.
