The first lifestyle medicine clinic in Greece has been inaugurated.
The inauguration of The Longevity and Well-being Clinic, the first clinic in Greece specializing in Lifestyle Medicine, took place on Monday, October 21, 2024, with great success. Founded and led by Dr. Kalliopi Kalaitzi, a specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with expertise in Lifestyle Medicine, this clinic aims to promote health, wellness, and longevity through innovative treatments based on scientifically validated practices.
Dr. Kalaitzi emphasized that “the philosophy of our team is grounded in the World Health Organization’s definition of health from 1948, which states that ‘health is not merely the absence of disease or infirmity but complete physical, mental, and social well-being.’ Thus, health professionals should aspire to serve this purpose, not just treat diseases. The new medical specialty of Lifestyle Medicine, which I studied and began practicing in Germany, addresses the root causes of chronic diseases, aiming not only to treat but even to reverse illness. Proper nutrition, physical activity, restorative sleep, supportive relationships, avoidance of substances such as alcohol and nicotine, and stress management are the six pillars of Lifestyle Medicine, with numerous studies scientifically proving their therapeutic effects.”
Dr. Kalaitzi thanked the attendees at the inauguration of The Longevity and Well-being Clinic, saying, “I have found the purpose of my professional life—to guide people around me toward a healthy lifestyle based on the invaluable guidelines of my science, Medicine, which captivates and inspires me.”
The clinic was introduced by Professor Antonia Trichopoulou, an internationally renowned epidemiologist who is known as the “mother of the Mediterranean Diet.” She praised Dr. Kalaitzi’s work with scientific recognition, with whom she collaborates closely.
Dr. Kalaitzi’s role in recognizing Lifestyle Medicine in Greece and her collaboration in the Center of Excellence for Health and Wellness was highlighted by Dr. Stefanos Kales, a professor at Harvard University’s School of Public Health, who traveled from Boston to attend the event.
This new clinic opens a new chapter in Medicine in Greece by combining services across four areas: Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Lifestyle Medicine, Culinary Medicine, and the science of Healthy Aging.
The clinic welcomes not only patients with chronic conditions who seek holistic life support (through exercise, nutrition, mental health support, smoking cessation, and sleep improvement) but also anyone seeking scientific guidance in adopting habits that lead to healthy longevity.
The event’s catering was curated by the “DEIPNOSOFISTIRION” group.
The clinic is located at 17 Ploutarchou Street, Kolonaki, Athens.
