The United States Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, has selected three works by visual artist Christina Lappa from her series Heroes of 1821 to be installed at the official residence of the U.S. Embassy in Athens.
Dedicated to Laskarina Bouboulina, an iconic figure of the Greek War of Independence, the artworks present a contemporary visual narrative of female strength, identity and cultural memory, while also serving as powerful vehicles of cultural diplomacy on an international level.
The curation and placement of the works were carried out by the artist herself. They now form part of the official residence of the U.S. Embassy in Athens, marking a significant moment of international recognition for contemporary Greek art within a prestigious institutional and diplomatic context.
Commenting on the selection of her works, Christina Lappa stated:
I feel deeply proud to see my works placed in a space of such strong symbolism and international significance. This process was, for me, an experience of growth, meaningful dialogue and great joy.

Everything this heroine represents — strength, courage, intelligence and leadership — I believe is also reflected in Kimberly Guilfoyle herself, a dynamic, cultivated and thoroughly modern woman.
At the same time, Christina Lappa’s works have been included in the official Art in Embassies program of the U.S. Department of State, a cultural diplomacy initiative that promotes intercultural dialogue through art. The artworks are featured on the program’s official digital platform, further enhancing the international visibility and reach of her work.
Inclusion in the Art in Embassies program is considered a significant distinction, as the initiative collaborates with selected artists from around the world and presents their works in U.S. embassies and diplomatic missions internationally.
