Cycladic Shop Marks World Book Day with Special Edition Titles.

To celebrate World Book Day on April 23, the Cycladic Shop offers a 50% discount on a selection of landmark publications from the Museum of Cycladic Art. From Thursday, April 23 through Sunday, April 26, visitors will have the opportunity to acquire selected catalogues from both recent and historic archaeological and contemporary art exhibitions that have shaped the museum’s legacy.

Available both at the Cycladic Shop and online at cycladic.gr/shop, the offer includes catalogues from major exhibitions such as:

“Eros. From Hesiod’s Theogony to Late Antiquity”, which explores the concept of Eros in the ancient world, from its mythological origins in Hesiod’s Theogony to its many interpretations in late antiquity.

“Cycladic Society 5000 Years Ago”, a publication that reconstructs daily life, social organization, and belief systems in the Cyclades during the 3rd millennium BC, shedding light on settlements, technologies, activities, social hierarchy, and religious practices.

“Picasso and Antiquity. Line and Clay”, which highlights the creative dialogue between Picasso’s work and ancient Greek art. Through drawings and ceramics by the artist juxtaposed with Greek antiquities, the publication reveals the profound influence of antiquity on his practice.

“Kallos. The Ultimate Beauty”, which examines the concept of beauty in ancient Greek thought and everyday life. Through rich material and contributions from leading scholars, the publication presents kallos not only as physical appearance but as a synthesis of external beauty and moral virtue, underscoring its enduring significance.

“Ai Weiwei at Cycladic”, accompanying the exhibition that marked the Chinese artist’s first major presentation in Greece, and the first time his work was shown in an archaeological museum internationally.

“Cindy Sherman at Cycladic: Early Works”, the catalogue of the artist’s first museum exhibition in Greece, exploring identity, social roles, and representations of women through photography and self-transformation.

“Brice Marden and Greek Antiquity”, documenting the first major presentation of the American artist in Greece, where his work entered into direct dialogue with selected antiquities from the museum’s permanent collections.

“Antiquarianism and Philhellenism. The Thanasis and Marina Martinos Collection”, dedicated to philhellenism and the fascination with antiquity, linking 19th-century European artistic production with ancient Greek heritage.

“Beyond. Death and the Afterlife in Ancient Greece”, a scholarly publication exploring ancient Greek perceptions of death and the afterlife.

“Chaeronea, August 2, 338 BC: A Day that Changed the World”, which examines the Battle of Chaeronea and its impact on the formation of the Hellenistic world.

In addition to exhibition catalogues, the offer includes the landmark publication “Contemporary Art at the Museum of Cycladic Art, 2007–2021”, which offers a retrospective look at the exhibitions and collaborations that shaped the museum’s contemporary artistic identity. Rooted in Cycladic antiquity, the museum has engaged in dialogue with leading artists such as Yannis Kounellis, Lynda Benglis, Louise Bourgeois, George Condo, Cy Twombly, Pablo Picasso and Ai Weiwei.

Also available is the unique publication “Selections”, offering a representative overview of the Museum’s collections. Featuring objects spanning antiquity — including vases, figurines, sculptures, coins, jewellery and other artefacts — it presents the richness of the museum’s permanent displays to both a broad audience and the scholarly community.
