“Trap” is an absurd mystery story that makes one wonder if it is a psychological thriller or a black comedy. Robert Thomas (1927-1989) became famous for this particular theatrical genre, which he essentially pioneered, the comédie policière, by marrying boulevard theater with police intrigue. His works are an distillation of diabolical intrigue, bourgeois propriety, and subversive humor.
About the play:
In an isolated chalet in the Alps, a woman disappears. Her husband desperately tries to find her and solve the mystery behind her disappearance. In this effort, he finds himself trapped in a labyrinth of secrets, surprises and twists, in a trap set without his knowledge and from which he tries in vain to escape. Strange visitors and an inspector, who is trying to solve the riddle, are around him, while he is now struggling to save his own life. Is he the victim of machinations or is he losing his mind?
The writer’s mastery envelops the viewers, along with the characters, in a web of mystery where truth and lies, victims and perpetrators, madness and logic, coexist, constantly alternating the roles of “being” and “seeming”. In a torrential rhythm of revelations and reversals, they will be immersed in the trap, seeking the exit until the last scene of the play. The play starring actors Nikos Totomis, Yannis Papadopoulos, Panos Zagarelos, Margarita Letou, Yannis Psiridis and Fani Kalantzi is directed by Eycharis Papaioannou.
