Inspired by the exhibition Jeff Koons: “Venus of Lespugue”, the Museum of Cycladic Art presents a seminar titled “10 Things I Like About Jeff Koons”, inviting the public to an open and meaningful discussion on how we see, interpret and evaluate art.
The seminar is designed for those who wish not only to better understand Jeff Koons’ work, but also to discover new ways of thinking about, observing and engaging with contemporary art. Participants may attend individual sessions or all three meetings.
Through the observation of artworks, the exchange of views and different approaches to interpretation, participants will explore key questions often associated with contemporary artistic practice: What is the relationship between concept, aesthetic experience and the art market? How is our personal response to an artwork shaped? And how does our gaze shift when we enter into a deeper dialogue with art?
The aim of the seminar is to create a space where different perspectives can coexist and complement one another, encouraging participants to trust their own judgement and reconsider the criteria through which they approach a work of art.
The cycle concludes with an open debate during the final session, where participants will be invited to form and defend their own position.
The seminar will be led by Elli Paxinou, art theorist and education curator, and Dr Antonis Stoantzikis, visual artist and lecturer at the Athens School of Fine Arts.
Meeting dates: Wednesday, May 27 and June 3
