The exhibition titled “One Hundred Years of Architecture in Greece in One Hundred Buildings (1924-2024)” will be held at the Book Tower, on the ground floor of the National Library of Greece, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, from Wednesday, February 5th to Sunday, February 9th, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
A fascinating exploration of Greek architecture over the past 100 years is set to unfold at the National Library of Greece, within the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. The exhibition, “100 Years of Architecture in Greece in One Hundred Buildings (1924-2024),” will run from February 5th to 9th, 2025, offering a unique perspective on the evolution of architectural styles and influences within the country.
Curated by Professor Panagiotis Pangalos, the exhibition draws inspiration from the eponymous book-album published by Grad Review and edited by Manolis Anastasakis. This comprehensive project, a collaboration between Citylab, the National Library of Greece, Grad Review magazine, the University of West Attica, and the Association of Athenians, showcases 100 significant buildings selected from the past century. The Avax Group serves as the exclusive sponsor for both the publication and the exhibition, with Epikyklos as Citylab’s creative partner.
Visitors will journey through four distinct chronological sections, each highlighting the architectural trends and key projects of its era. Beyond simply displaying the chosen buildings, the exhibition delves into the historical, social, and cultural context that shaped Greek architecture, offering a richer understanding of the forces at play. Multimedia presentations will provide further insights, while a specially curated soundscape by Konstantinos Hytas will enhance the immersive experience. The exhibition also caters to younger audiences, with scheduled presentations and workshops led by experienced facilitators.
The accompanying book-album serves as the exhibition catalog, featuring detailed presentations of each building alongside insightful essays by prominent academics and researchers.
The exhibition will be greeted by: Stavros Zoumboulakis (President of the Board of Trustees of the National Library), Panagiotis Kaldis (Rector of the University of West Attica), Eleni Tatla (President of the Department of Interior Architecture of PADA), Eleftherios Skiadas (President of the Association of Athenians), Manolis Anastasakis (Publisher of Grad Review), and Panagiotis Pangalos (Professor at PADA, Exhibition Curator). Presentations on the exhibition’s theme will follow, coordinated by the Doctor of Architecture, Stavros Alifragis, by: Aspasia Kouzoupi (Assistant Professor at the University of Thessaly), Anastasios Kotsiopoulos (Emeritus Professor at APO), Konstantinos Moraitis (Emeritus Professor at NTUA), Nikos Patsavos (Associate Professor at the University of Ioannina), Agapi Proimou (Assistant Professor at the University of Patras), and Sofia Tsiraki (Professor at NTUA). The speeches and presentations during the opening will be videotaped and freely accessible to anyone interested through the Citylab website.
Admission to the exhibition’s opening will be exclusively by personal invitation due to the limited available seats, while admission to the exhibition for the rest of the period will be free to the public.
