Athens Epidaurus Festival x SNFCC: MONOM 4DSOUND.

A Groundbreaking Sonic Installation at the Dome of SNFCC | 6 – 12 June 2025

The Athens Epidaurus Festival and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) announced an exciting new collaboration, launching with a pioneering sonic installation that merges cutting-edge technology and art, curated by Stavros Gasparatos.

For the first time in Greece, the Berlin-based studio MONOM, a global leader in sound spatialization and the use of the revolutionary 4DSOUND system, will present a series of specially commissioned works designed for this medium.

From 6 to 12 June, the SNFCC Dome will house a large-scale 4DSOUND system, comprising 48 omnidirectional speakers and 9 subwoofers. This innovative setup will transform the space into a holographic acoustic environment, immersing the audience in sound from every direction. The installation highlights the potential of multidimensional sound to create a sense of community among listeners and redefine how we perceive music.

With installations that invite visitors to navigate captivating soundscapes and immerse themselves in a universe where sound is experienced as space, movement, and emotion, MONOM 4DSOUND promises a truly multidimensional experience.

A Sonic Universe for All Ages

The SNFCC Dome will become an acoustic universe where visitors of all ages can experience unique sound journeys throughout the day.

A new work for children and adults, “The King of Grey and Silence” by Sofiana Theofanous (winner of the 2020 State Prize for Children’s Playwriting), written specifically for the Dome’s installation and produced by MONOM, invites audiences into a multidimensional narrative. This allegorical tale, narrated by Alexandra Lerta, celebrates the power of art, hope, and imagination, bringing words and sounds to life in a magical soundscape.

Additionally, The Elements – Earth, Fire, Water, Wind, and Aether, composed and spatially designed by MONOM and its collaborators, offers a pure sonic experience that explores our deep connection with the forces of nature.

The MONOM Archive Show will feature four works created especially for the 4DSOUND system. Pieces by Suzanne Ciani, Evita Manji, Cinna Peyghamy, and Andrea Belfi compose a multidimensional sonic landscape that blends technological and artistic innovation.

Live – Sensory Experiences

This unique opportunity for Greek audiences will culminate in two live concerts, each offering a one-of-a-kind sensory journey through the 4DSOUND system.

On Tuesday, 10 June, Spyros Polychronopoulos presents an immersive multichannel concert where the boundaries between natural and synthetic sound blur. Fragmented sonic landscapes, percussive sounds, drones from strings, and evolving textures from modular synths collide and dissolve through multiple phases of digital processing. From piercing high frequencies to dense, tangible lows, “Nearfield” invites the audience into an intimate sonic landscape, where subtle gestures and hidden audio traces resonate just beneath the surface.

On Thursday, 12 June, Ben Frost, known for collaborations with artists like Björk, Tim Hecker, Colin Stetson, and Swans, will present a brand-new work composed specifically for the 4DSOUND system. Frost, celebrated for pushing sonic boundaries and for his intense and uncompromising sound palette, will traverse minimalist, experimental, industrial, and noise genres. His piece will explore the architecture of sound itself, sculpting a dynamic environment of shifting textures, intensities, and spatial waves that envelop the listener.
