“Reconnecting Architecture with Nature”
The Embassy of Japan in Greece, in collaboration with LAMDA Development, as part of the events for “2024: Year of Culture and Tourism Japan-Greece” and the “The Ellinikon Moments” series, welcomes the internationally renowned architect KUMA Kengo for a unique lecture on Monday, September 16th. The distinguished Japanese architect will speak at the fourth “Talk” about his timeless effort to reconnect architecture with the natural environment and maintain the continuity between natural and social contexts, using local materials and traditional patterns.
Prior to the lecture, a roundtable discussion will be held at The Ellinikon Experience Centre, where students from Japan and Greece will present the results of the educational workshops themed “Material Cultures: The Way of Wood and The Way of Stone.” These workshops were organized by the Embassy of Japan for architecture students as part of the anniversary year, with the kind support of Alberta Shipmanagement and Kuma Lab (Department of Architecture, University of Tokyo).
The workshops, held consecutively in Japan and Greece, were led by Mr. KUMA Kengo, Emeritus Professor at the University of Tokyo and founder of the architectural firm Kengo Kuma & Associates, Mr. TOSHIKI Hirano, Assistant Professor at Kuma Lab, University of Tokyo, Mr. Aris Kafandaris, Head of Projects at Kengo Kuma & Associates, and Dr. Vassilis Ganiatsas, Professor at the School of Architecture, NTUA, who provided organizational guidance.

For the convenience of visitors, a free shuttle service will be provided from the main Entrance Gate of The Ellinikon Experience Park (El. Venizelou Street) to The Ellinikon Experience Park parking area.
The lecture will also be broadcasted via livestream on The Ellinikon’s YouTube channel.

Through “The Ellinikon Moments” initiative, LAMDA Development is implementing a series of lectures and activities aimed at highlighting the rich history and culture of the Ellinikon area. At the same time, it heralds the future of The Ellinikon, bringing to the forefront the vision of its development into a modern and sustainable urban center.
