Conversations, Music, and Film Enrich the Takis 1∞ Exhibition in Athens.

As part of the major retrospective exhibition Takis 1∞, organized by the B&E Goulandris Foundation to mark the centenary of the artist’s birth across its two museums in Athens and Andros, a rich program of parallel events will take place at the Athens Museum throughout September and October.

The program includes talks with prominent art historians and curators who worked with Takis, the presentation of a new original musical composition by Michalis Delta, and the screening of the award-winning film Section spéciale by Costa-Gavras. Public guided tours and the specially designed interactive tour Magnetizing Art will also continue.

Historians’ Stories – A Series of Conversations

Coinciding with the Takis 1∞ exhibition, the Foundation inaugurates a new cycle of discussions in its Auditorium, titled Historians’ Stories. Five times a year, art historians – and other scholars – will share their career paths through landmark exhibitions, important publications, and unique expertise, in dialogue with Maria Koutsomalli-Moreau, Head of Collections at the Foundation.

The first talk, on Monday 22 September, features Marie-Laure Bernadac, who has served as curator at the Graphic Arts Department of the Centre Pompidou, the Musée Picasso, the CAPC – Museum of Contemporary Art in Bordeaux, and as Head of Contemporary Art at the Louvre. The second event, on Thursday 30 October, welcomes Alfred Pacquement, former Director of the Musée National d’Art Moderne at the Centre Pompidou and, since 2019, Director of the Soulages Museum in Rodez and the Bemberg Foundation in Toulouse.
The talks will be held in French with simultaneous translation into Greek.

Michalis Delta – Pnoi

Michalis Delta, one of Greece’s most renowned electronic music composers and founding member of the band Stereo Nova, presents his new performance Pnoi at the B&E Goulandris Foundation Auditorium on 11 and 16 October and 1 November.

This original work, created on the occasion of the Takis 1∞ retrospective, is a contemporary musical exploration of Takis’s innovative art, performed by a trio that promises an unforgettable experience. Analog electronic sounds, melodic patterns, and the timbres of cello and piano breathe life into the emotional vibrations of both the performance and Takis’s artworks.

Screening of Costa-Gavras’ Section spéciale

On Wednesday 29 October, the Foundation will screen Costa-Gavras’ award-winning film Section spéciale, featuring a musical collaboration with Takis. Starring Louis Seigner, Roland Bertin, and Michael Lonsdale, the film recounts the establishment of a special court by the Vichy government to prosecute acts of resistance against German occupation. The film earned Costa-Gavras the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1975.

The Exhibition – Takis 1∞

The centennial tribute Takis 1∞, honoring the 100th anniversary of the birth of Panayiotis Vassilakis – known as Takis (1925–2019) – is presented simultaneously at the Foundation’s two museums in Athens and Andros, in collaboration with the Takis Foundation, until 2 November.

At the Athens Museum, the Magnetic Fields section explores Takis’s long and fertile engagement with magnetic fields, a defining theme since 1959. At the Andros Museum of Contemporary Art, visitors can trace the key stages of his career, shaped by groundbreaking innovations that defined his trajectory.

The exhibition is accompanied by a comprehensive catalogue and a five-episode podcast series recounting the artist’s multifaceted life, available on all major platforms. Educational workshops for children are also scheduled in Athens during October.
