With extended opening hours on Friday evenings from 17:00 to 21:00 and a general admission fee of €10, the exhibition “Kykladitisses: Untold Stories of women in the Cyclades” enters its final month before concluding on May 4. Starting from Friday, March 28, visitors will now have the opportunity to plan their visit on Friday evenings, where the “Ask Me” guides will be available to share the fascinating stories behind the exhibits and answer any questions.
The landmark exhibition “Kykladitisses: Untold Stories of women in the Cyclades”, which has captivated both Greek and international visitors in Athens, is organized by the Museum of Cycladic Art in collaboration with the Hellenic Ministry of Culture (Ephorate of Antiquities of the Cyclades). This is the first-ever pan-Cycladic exhibition, offering a historical perspective through the eyes of the women of the Cyclades, from antiquity to the 19th century. The exhibition brings together 180 masterpieces from almost all the museums of the Cycladic islands. Many of these unique works have never traveled outside the Cyclades before, while some have never been presented to the public.
Among the standout exhibits are three particularly exceptional pieces due to their uniqueness and scale: the colossal Kore of Thera from the Archaic period, presented to the public for the first time; the iconic Women in the Inner Sanctuary fresco from Akrotiri, Thera; and Artemis Elaphebolos from Delos, a Hellenistic statue displayed outside the island for the first time. The exhibition will be transferred in its entirety to the newly renovated Archaeological Museum of Thera in June, marking its grand reopening.
