Flows: The Rhythmic Fusion of Color and Sound in Elias Vasilos’ Solo Exhibition.

The DL Gallery is proud to present the solo exhibition “Flows” by Elias Vasilos, opening on Saturday, March 29, 2025. This exhibition explores the intersection of color, sound, and movement, bringing to life a contemporary interpretation of sensory unification in abstract painting.

In 1912, the synesthetic painter Wassily Kandinsky famously stated: “Color is the key. The eye is the hammer. The soul is the piano with many strings.” Kandinsky’s theory of sensory unification and the convergence of music and painting set the foundation for artistic exploration beyond the visual realm. In today’s digital era, can abstract painting still achieve a synthesis of the senses? Vasilos’ work in “Flows” suggests that it can, offering a new reading of the “sound of color.”

His waveforms, at times constrained within the canvas and at other moments appearing to extend infinitely, evoke mathematical sequences that either conclude or approach infinity. When viewed with half-closed eyes, these paintings reveal digital structures—such as binary code (0s and 1s) from computational language—embedded within the analog image, blurring the boundaries between physical and digital realities.

The illusory movement of matter within the pictorial space, combined with the repetition of elements and units, generates a continuous flow—of information, mathematical sequences, a potential digital space, and fluid chromatic waves that evolve into sound. This rhythmic, undulating motion transforms into an auditory experience, transcending traditional artistic confines.

Vasilos’ work exhibits a structural dynamism: it fragments, pauses, and reconfigures itself into a cohesive whole. His gestural repetition and artistic methodology dissolve sensory boundaries, merging sound, color, and time into a unified visual universe that challenges perception and interpretation.
