The Vouliagmeni Nautical Club Celebrates 20 Years of a Tradition That Inspires Thousands.

An exciting swimming experience awaits winter swimming enthusiasts at the 20th Winter Swimming Crossing, organized once again by the Vouliagmeni Nautical Club, with the aim of inspiring and exciting swimmers of all ages and levels.

The 20th Winter Swimming Crossing, which has been established as one of the most emblematic and popular swimming events, will take place on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

As part of this anniversary event, the Vouliagmeni Nautical Club hosted a press conference on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at its clubhouse, with speakers including: Ms. Stella Lazarou, President of the Vouliagmeni Nautical Club; Mr. Christos Bofilios, Technical Director of the Winter Crossing; Mr. Petros Parthenis, Communications Consultant & Founder of the Weswim project; and Ms. Sofia Psilolignou, long-distance swimmer. A welcome address was delivered by Mr. Dionysis Georgoulopoulos, Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Vari–Voula–Vouliagmeni, while the discussion was coordinated by journalist Ms. Greta Lymperopoulou.

Ms. Stella Lazarou stated:
«This event has evolved significantly over the years. It began back in 1997 as a suggestion by Ms. Lila Kolokotroni and was implemented by a small group of people who shared the same passion for open-water swimming. Since then, it has been held every year, attracting nearly 10,000 swimmers so far. Our unique location offers an exceptional experience for both first-time participants and experienced athletes who want to challenge themselves. The event is also distinguished by its inclusiveness, ensuring smooth access for people with mobility difficulties.»

Mr. Dionysis Georgoulopoulos highlighted the contribution of the Vouliagmeni Nautical Club as a strategic ambassador for the region of Vari–Voula–Vouliagmeni, noting its exemplary work in youth sports and its steadily expanding presence beyond local borders.

Mr. Christos Bofilios stated:
«For the past five years, I have had the honor of working with the Nautical Club in organizing this historic winter race. Together we take care of every detail—from marking the water course to safety protocols—so that swimmers can enjoy a powerful yet absolutely safe experience in the sea.»

Mr. Petros Parthenis added:
«The Weswim project, born from the spirit that characterizes Vouliagmeni, encourages daily swimming while strengthening both our physical and mental well-being, and connects us socially with our feet in the sand 365 days a year. Every Sunday, we meet in the waters where this emblematic Crossing takes place! We are proud to be part of this story and continue to navigate alongside NOV, bridging tradition with the modern development of the Open Water movement in Greece. We look forward to seeing you all!»

Ms. Sofia Psilolignou mentioned:
«As a long-distance swimmer since 1999, I was invited in 2003 to swim a short distance with a small group, full of enthusiasm and love for the sea. It was the first swimming event organized in the Attica region, initiated by Lila Kolokotroni. Since then, it has grown every year and has now become an emblematic race.»

The Winter Crossing is the ultimate winter challenge for everyone who loves the sea and swimming—an exceptional experience open to both seasoned athletes and those who want to test their limits. Participants can choose between three different distances, depending on their level and experience.
