Jazz at the Museum: A Night dedicated to International Jazz Day.

This year’s edition of the beloved concert series Jazz at the Museum, presented by the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation, comes to a close on Thursday, April 30 — International Jazz Day — with a performance by the George Kontrafouris Quartet, titled “International Jazz Day”.

The 2025–2026 programme, themed “Her Voice”, expanded into new musical territories, incorporating classical music, opera and other forms of expression. The closing concert reflects this spirit of openness and dialogue, bringing together established artists and emerging voices.

On the occasion of International Jazz Day, pianist George Kontrafouris and drummer Jason Wastor join forces with the next generation of Greek jazz musicians, collaborating with students from the Jazz Department of the Ionian University: Eleftheria Papaoikonomou (vocals) and Nikoletta Floumi (bass). The evening will feature original compositions alongside fresh interpretations of well-loved jazz pieces.

George Kontrafouris has collaborated with numerous internationally acclaimed musicians, performing on piano and Hammond organ with artists such as Marc Johnson, Arild Andersen, Marcus Stockhausen, Andy Sheppard, Ralph Peterson Jr. and Lou Donaldson, among others.

He teaches piano and Hammond organ at the Athenaeum Conservatory in Greece and at the Sibelius Academy in Finland, and is currently a faculty member of the Ionian University in Corfu. Over the years, he has led numerous jazz seminars both in Greece and abroad.

In addition to leading the George Kontrafouris Trio and the Baby Trio, he also performs with the George Trantalidis Trilogia ensemble and collaborates with Timo Lassy.
