This fall, the cosmopolitan grand hotel bar returns. In its most authentic and spectacular form. Enriched with generous doses of true style, it brings with it the glamour, mystery, and allure of social clubs that, in every metropolis from London to Hong Kong, have always attracted the most creative and interesting people. Location? It will make its mark exactly where it was missing: in Kifisia.
Koumkan is not just another bar. Like the namesake card game that dominated the 1960s, it is a space for social connection, communication, and unwinding. Thoughtfully designed to favor both privacy and the need “to see and be seen.” It encapsulates trends and needs of the times, yet it is rooted in the very essential elements of bars from another era, which it enthusiastically revives. A temple of comfort, like the grandiose legendary parties of the Scott Fitzgerald era, where time stopped, and the moment became a memorable experience. A place where one can feel special, with the sense of being in their own space, where the bartender knows their preferences and how they like their drink. The most essential ingredient of Koumkan? Its people.
The concept of Koumkan is the brainchild of Aris Vezenes, Creative Director of the company Green Garlic, a new hospitality group that transforms spaces, reinvents stories, and creates new brands in the universe we define as fine living.
Green Garlic entrusted the aesthetic of Koumkan to Andrea Kostopoulo and James McAnally from Manhattan Projects. This is an emerging architectural firm in New York that believes in the merging of techniques, styles, and eras, creating atmospheres based on a mix of ideas and different elements, with eclecticism as their common foundation.
Thus, Koumkan is not an ordinary bar, even in terms of design. It is essentially a composition of two spaces, two atmospheres, two emotional states. On one side, the bar in the green room—darker, more seductive, more enigmatic. Marble, metallic details, mysterious lighting. On the other side, the restaurant—brighter, with impressively high ceilings, chandeliers, and mirrors taking center stage in a curved environment where carefully placed plants create private corners. A cosmopolitan microcosm with a sense of old-world elegance.
The menu at Koumkan is a celebration of pleasure, a reason to ignite the desire for something more. Classic dishes crafted with masterful skill in ingredient management and touches that evoke emotions from all-time classic restaurants around the world. Here’s a sneak peek: Peruvian anticuchos, arancini, beef tartare, crispy rice with tuna, rigatoni with truffle and caviar, Chateaubriand. And also, Tarte Tatin, Millefeuille, Sacher Torte, and Knickerbocker Glory, a type of sundae that became extremely popular in early 20th century New York.
Koumkan will be the Athenian symbol of a new, authentically luxurious way of life. Coming soon.
