The Contemporary Intervention Program is a new visual arts initiative launched by the museum to support and promote contemporary Greek art. It fosters a creative dialogue between the timeless work of Alekos Fassianos and the voices of contemporary artists.
Twice a year, the museum invites a contemporary artist to create an artistic intervention within its space. The selected artists are invited to engage directly with the museum’s architecture, the paintings, ceramics, and design elements created by Fassianos. Through installations, sculptures, or other forms of art, each intervention enhances the interaction with Fassianos’ holistic artistic universe.
The program aims to spotlight contemporary Greek art and to cultivate intergenerational dialogue among artists. At the same time, it seeks to offer audiences new interpretative frameworks for experiencing art. Each exhibition aspires to ignite fresh conversations across academic, philosophical, and social domains.
“When I first visited the museum to explore the space and the works in preparation for the exhibition, I noticed points of intersection—like crossroads converging at a shared center. This unexpected alignment impressed me and guided my selection of the works to be included in the show. I discovered visual and thematic connections with my own practice: works echoing the repetition of form (the massification of the individual into a homogenized crowd), pieces with strong political commentary delivered through humorous undertones, and the coexistence of the mythological with the everyday in a singular space.” — Excerpt from Panos Profitis’ curatorial statement.
