Zeus+Dione Celebrates 20 Years of Attica with a Silk Homage to Tradition.

Zeus+Δione marked the 20th anniversary of Attica department stores with the creation of a limited-edition silk scarf inspired by the map of Attica, unveiled at Attica City Link. The scarf, conceived as an artistic journey, charts local landmarks, the two Attica stores, and symbolic points tied to the brand itself. This served as the catalyst for an artistic event blending contemporary design with tradition. At its heart was the timeless art of head wrapping—a practice rich in memory, identity, and heritage.

Under the artistic direction of Marios Schwab, a silent, almost ritualistic setting was created, inspired by pre-wedding or festive customs, when female relatives and friends adorned the bride’s head—or one another’s—with care. At the center of the room, a model dressed simply in an ecru petticoat sat quietly. Her hair was carefully styled, ready to receive the intricate folds of the scarf. Adamantia Notaroglou, an expert in traditional Greek attire and curator of the women’s wardrobe at the Lyceum Club of Greek Women, approached dressed in a strict black pleated ensemble. Without a word, she began the first head wrap. Her movements—precise and rhythmic—drew the eye to the details: the working hands, the texture of the silk, the complexity of each fold.

During the presentation, head wraps were revealed that reflect the ethnographic diversity of Greece: from Paiania in Attica—with distinct wrapping styles for married women and newlyweds—to the refugees of Asia Minor’s coastline, with the male headscarf of rural Erythraia, and the nomadic traditions of the Sarakatsani, adorned with decorative metallic chains known as “earrings.” This sartorial storytelling also highlighted the festive head wrap of Metaxades in Evros, where a small bouquet of flowers is precisely placed on a specific part of the head—a reference to Soufli, the origin of the silk used by Zeus+Δione.

The presentation concluded with three inspired contemporary interpretations of the head wrap, each based on the new limited-edition Attica scarf: the wrapped scarf of Asia Minor, the head covering of Erythraia, and a creative nod to the klephtic look of the traditional Attican fustanella. This presentation invited us to reimagine Greek tradition not as a static inheritance, but as a living, breathing source of creativity.
